Work had already commenced on this substantial six-bedroom property when Gruhe was appointed to design a new entrance porch. Located within a conservation area, the initial commission evolved into a much more extensive transformation of the property. A new two-storey extension was designed within the existing internal courtyard to the side of the house, creating a music room at ground floor level with bedroom suites above. To the rear, a generous new basement was introduced to provide a games room, bar and entertainment space opening onto the lower expanse of garden through a full-width glazed elevation. A carefully detailed glazed link was designed to connect the main house to the new basement, bringing natural light into the circulation space while creating a strong visual connection with the garden. The completed project successfully integrated a series of contemporary additions within the character of the existing property and was completed on site in 2023.
